Leaders needed for Student Council

Who do you want to represent your class? What improvements does our school need? How can you help our students’ voices be heard?

Our school is establishing a Student Council this school year, and student leaders are needed to fill the council, allowing for students to have their say in the direction of our school.

The Student Council will consist of four officers — a president (who must be a senior), a vice president (who must be a junior), a secretary, and a treasurer. In addition, each grade level is allotted two positions on the Student Council.

The requirements to run for these positions are a GPA of 2.5 or higher, attendance of 90 percent or higher, exhibition of leadership skills, endorsement from 1-2 staff members, minimal disciplinary infractions, and no major disciplinary infractions.

Student Council Candidate Requirements

• GPA of 2.5+
• 90%+ attendance
• Exhibits leadership skills
• Endorsement from 1-2 staff members
• Minimal disciplinary infractions
• No major disciplinary infractions

Applications to run for Student Council can be found in the Guidance Suite and are due by Monday, Aug. 25. Candidates may campaign the week of Sept. 2-5, and the inaugural Student Council elections will take place Sept. 9 in the cafeteria during lunch.

Our students need to be heard, and we need leaders who are willing to listen and represent the student body well. If that sounds like you, your school needs you to step up and run.

Students who serve on the Student Council will gain valuable experience working in a team environment aimed at effecting positive change — and add an impressive line to their resumés.

Participation in this Student Council election can help bring positive change to our school, so whether you’re running or simply voting, be sure to add your voice to the conversation.
